Unleash the Hounds
"Unleash the Hounds" (2025) is a 30 by 40 inch charcoal drawing inspired by Fuseli’s The Nightmare. The image shows a man lying motionless on a table while four figures feed on him. Although some use cutlery while others tear into him with their bare teeth, their consumption is nonetheless careless and intimate, marked by a disturbing lack of restraint.
Meanwhile, his intestines spill from his torso, serving as a metaphor for his inability to speak up. He does not lack the strength, but the will to say no. He is not a victim of others, but of himself. This drawing explores the exhaustion that comes from chronic people-pleasing. It illustrates how the need to be agreeable can become its own form of emotional consumption.
Ultimately, "Unleash the Hounds" asks a painful question. After giving so much of yourself to others, how much of you is left?
